General Air Conditioning FAQs
What does air conditioning actually do?
Air conditioning does much more than cool and heat the air. It also filters, dehumidifies, and circulates it, helping to create a more comfortable, cleaner, and healthier indoor environment all year round.
Can air conditioning be used for heating?
Yes. Most modern air conditioning systems provide high-efficiency heating as well as cooling. They’re an energy-efficient and cost-effective alternative to traditional heating, particularly during spring and autumn.
Is air con expensive to run?
Modern systems are highly energy efficient. When correctly sized and used sensibly, running costs can be lower than traditional electric heating, especially for heating.
Is air conditioning bad for your health?
No — not when it’s properly installed and maintained. In fact, air conditioning can improve indoor air quality by filtering dust, pollen, and airborne particles. Regular servicing keeps systems clean and hygienic.
Air Con Installation FAQs
Do I need planning permission to install air conditioning?
In most domestic and commercial situations, planning permission isn’t required. However, listed buildings or properties in conservation areas may need approval. We’ll always advise and check this for you.
How long does AC installation take?
A typical single-room installation usually takes one working day. Larger or more complex systems may take longer, but timescales are always confirmed in advance.
Will the installation be disruptive?
We keep disruption to a minimum. Installations usually involve minor drilling and pipework, and we always leave the area clean and tidy once work is complete.
Where can the outdoor unit be installed?
Outdoor units can typically be installed on external walls, roofs, or ground brackets. We’ll recommend the best location based on performance, noise levels, and appearance.
Air Con Costing & Sizing FAQs
How much does air conditioning cost?
Costs vary depending on room size, system type, and building layout. As a guide, prices typically start from £1,250 for a single-room system. We provide free, no-obligation surveys and quotations.
What size system do I need?
System size depends on factors such as room size, ceiling height, occupancy, equipment, and sunlight levels. We carry out proper heat-load calculations to ensure your system is correctly sized.
Can one system serve multiple rooms?
Yes. Multi-split and VRF systems allow multiple indoor units to operate from a single outdoor unit, making them ideal for homes or commercial buildings with several rooms.
Servicing & Maintenance FAQs
How often should air conditioning be serviced?
We recommend annual servicing for domestic systems and twice-yearly servicing for commercial systems, depending on usage and compliance requirements.
What happens if air conditioning isn't serviced?
Without regular servicing, systems can suffer from higher running costs, reduced performance, poor air quality, and breakdowns. Maintenance also helps protect manufacturer warranties.
Do you offer fixed price contracts?
Yes. We provide tailored servicing and PPM maintenance contracts for domestic and commercial customers to keep systems reliable, efficient, and compliant.
Noise & Appearance FAQ's
Are air con systems noisy?
Modern systems are designed to be extremely quiet. Many indoor units operate at noise levels similar to a whisper, making them ideal for bedrooms, offices, and meeting rooms. For very low noise level applications ducted systems are whisper quiet.
Will the units look bulky or unattractive?
Not at all. Today’s systems are slim, modern, and discreet, with options including wall-mounted, ceiling cassette, ducted, and floor-mounted units. Wall mounted systems are available in a variety of colours to match the room. Void ducted units are discreetly fitted out of site and cant be seen at all.
Reliability & Warranty FAQs
How long do AC systems last?
With correct installation and regular maintenance, most systems last 15 years or more.
Do air conditioning systems come with a warranty?
Yes. Most manufacturers offer warranties of 5-7 years, provided the system is installed and maintained by a qualified contractor.
